Amstrad GX4000 [1989]
Amstrad's GX400 was the second UK-developed console. It was an instant hit on its release, but gradually faded into the distance due to rival and 'bigger' console manufacturers which came into the picture, with better and more powerful consoles. The main competitor was the Sega Mega Drive.
The only downside was the fact that the GX4000 was basically a CPC, which at this time was behind its time. Other manufacturers had the next generation 16-bit consoles, including Atari and Commodore.
A very limited amount of games were released for the system due to its poor sales.
VERDICT |
| The GX4000 was a good console but its timing of release was its main reason for failure. |
