Sega Mega CD [1992]
Sega CD [1992]
The Mega CD (Sega CD in US) came out just after the SNES was released when Sega were losing sales on the Mega Drive. It was an add-on to pick up sales and keep them at the top of the market.
Because of the large amount of storage space on CDs Sega decided on using FMV (Full Motion Video) on their games. It was not the best quality and there was less user interaction which sometimes felt frustrating.
Many games lost sales due to bad publicity over the violence in them. They then introduced a Videogame Ratings Council (VRC), but the damage had already been done.
VERDICT |
| The Mega CD was a good console but due to the high price and lack of user involvement not many fans were willing to fork out for it. |
