Sony PlayStation (PSOne)
[1995]
"Trying to explain PlayStation in one sentence isn't very easy. Like all the best things in life, it can't be explained, summed up, categorised or neatly filed." PlayStation.com
The Sony PlayStation was probably the most popular games console of its time. The system consisted of a 32-bit CPU and has 512 KB RAM. The controller was the best around, it was designed perfectly to suit the user giving the choice to use analogue or digital control - so good it was included in its successor.
The main competitors to the PlayStation were the Nintendo 64 and later the Dreamcast. The Playstation had overall the better games with more variety. As far as games are concerned the PlayStation had the best racing game of any console in Gran Turismo as well as other football games such as the FIFA series. Other games that will always remain as classics are the series of Worms games and Tekken.
With the introduction of the compact PSOne to boost sales before the PS2 came out, all looked well for Sony. The PSOne is compact and streamlined and carried around comfortably, and with the new built-in LCD screen accessory available it's very convenient.
VERDICT |
| The PlayStation lasted a long time even past the introduction of the PS2. But after a while the graphics become outdated when compared to the PS2, Xbox, and GameCube. But it will always remain a quality console. |
